The Slow Recalibration: How I Found Myself After a Lifetime of Playing by the Rules
Most of my adult life has been spent within corporate America and chasing the proverbial notions of “status, structure, stability” which were deeply instilled by family dynamics.
I spent decades building a life driven by survival, logic and structure. I knew how to perform. I knew how to stay “within the lines” and be a good solider.
I was good at reading people as to not upset or disrupt the status quo.
I was out in the world, on my own, trying to make it in the big city, and fell into the trap of surrendering my power to those that “knew more than me”. I was too busy trying to survive to know otherwise.
When we give up a piece of ourselves to the “authority” we know that a piece of us then dies alongside that. We no longer have sovereignty of self rather we are pushed into the COG of expectations and conformity. Don’t get me wrong - I needed some of this in order to survive, physically and emotionally. But at some point, when can we begin to bring those pieces back home to self?
Over the last eight years or so, I noticed a shift in my environment, and my sense of self. It was as if I was moving through a deeper remembering of what life was really meant to be, and what was meant to be experienced.
This showed up as painful lessons, shattered sense of self and subsequent re-building.
Note that this wasn’t some quick spiritual “awakening” rather my remembrance was a slow, inner-knowing of something within myself needed to be examined. It didn’t necessarily come all at one time, or in this grandstanding way. It came over a period of my life, and subtly, revealed that there was a version of me I hadn’t yet met.
Looking back, I can see where my intuition led me to lessons I didn’t know I needed. Relationships, financial affairs, self-love.
So, I say this to you, as I have said to myself:
If you’re feeling that same pull…
If you’re sensing that something deeper is trying to get your attention…
If you’re starting to question who you’ve been and who you’re becoming…
I want to share a few things I learned from my experiences that hopefully can land a little bit with you:
You can be grounded and intuitive.
You can thrive in corporate spaces while your inner world shifts.
Your professionalism does not cancel out your spirituality.
Self-realization isn’t about abandoning the life you’ve built.
It’s about allowing the parts of you that have been quiet, suppressed, or unseen to step forward.
You are allowed to grow.
You are allowed to change.
You are allowed to have a life that expands beyond what you thought you “should” want.
As I continue to unravel the layers of who I was taught to be and step into who I truly am, I’m reminded that intuition isn’t a sudden revelation.
If you’ve felt that quiet tug toward something deeper, know that you’re not losing your edge or abandoning the life you’ve built. You’re simply making space for your inner wisdom to sit at the table with you. And in that space, both your personal and professional life can expand in ways you never imagined.
“It’s never too late to question everything.”
Stay tuned….I’m working on a very special offering for the corporate professional who’s been feeling “off” but can’t quite name why. These sessions would be ideal for those experiencing burnout, emotional heaviness or feeling disconnected.
